Setting the standards sky high

Northern Lights was founded in early 2017 with the aim to create the best, high-end video slots to ever hit the market. They’ve got their sights sets on creating unbelievable games that are like none others. Their aspiration shows in the choice of the company’s name as well, clearly inspired by the breath-taking Aurora Borealis (also known as the northern lights).

What this company wants to do, in their own words, is to recreate the otherworldly experience of seeing the Aurora Borealis through their games. They believe their “games should deliver the same feeling” and pride themselves “in creating the best looking and playing video slots around”. That’s certainly a huge claim to make, and not one that’s easy to live up to. However, both their extensive experience in the industry and their first ever slot point strongly towards achieving these dreams.

The brains at Northern Lights

The team at Northern Lights consists of many talented and experienced members, with all their artists and developers having worked on loads of game development projects for over 10 years. This includes the creation of video slots, casino platform integration solutions, localised content for specific markets and more. Their team might be small but they all have extensive experience in the business, having worked with some of today’s biggest, most successful companies, including Barcrest, Scientific Games, and Williams Interactive.

One of their big brains is CEO Andrew Goodale. Goodale is one of the most experienced video slot designers with specific domain knowledge about the UK market. Before joining Northern Lights, he ran the studio that launched the instant hit Rainbow Riches and other popular titles. He also worked at the well-known Williams Interactive studio, where he was in charge of the Monolopy slots series! With this impressive track record, Goodale now leads the ship at Northern Lights with his experience, knowledge and passion for games.

CTO Peter Lundh is also no stranger to the industry, having 30 years of experience in the telecom and gambling industries with expertise in building high availability systems using cloud-based server infrastructure. Robert Henrysson, the chairman of the board of Northern Lights was actually one of the founders of Jadestone along with the company’s CFO, Patrik Roos. This company was later sold to Williams Interactive where he was also part of the management team.

As you can probably tell, the company might be new on the scene, but its team members are anything but newcomers to the business! This background means rock solid foundations for them and a promising future.

What Northern Lights has been doing behind the scenes

So far, up until late 2018, Northern Lights has released 2 games, so they’ve clearly taken their time with producing their games in order to deliver only the best, as promised. However, they’ve also spent their time wisely on getting licensing deals and partnerships with other developers. So far, they’ve landed an approval to supply content to gaming giants Yggdrasil and the Scientific Games Digital platforms. They have also obtained the UK Gambling Commission operating license meaning that in the future they’ll be able to release their games for players in the UK, in Europe and in many other countries.

It was certainly a smart move on their part to focus a lot of time on obtaining licenses and partnerships rather than going ahead and producing a ton of slots that they might not even have been able to release to a wide range of jurisdictions.

Northern Lights game portfolio

Let’s take a look now at these 2 games we’ve been mentioning. Rocky’s Gold is a mining-themed slot that’s all about Rocky the miner, who spends his days picking away on the hunt for winning nuggets. It’s a standard 5-reel, 3-row structure.

It comes with 3 amazing bonus games all with a unique twist. Rocky’s bonus can be randomly triggered at the start of every spin, with Rocky the miner interacting with the reels by throwing dynamites onto them to explode into wins on the screen. It also features a TNT bonus game where one or more low value symbols will be chosen to become higher value symbols, and the Pay Dirt free spins game.

Rocky’s Gold is inspired by popular tv-shows like Gold Rush and Gold Divers, so it’s based on the simple idea that everyone wants to hit the jackpot! This slot embraces that idea and turns into a fun, colourful slot with lots of action: a stellar game for this provider to debut with.

Later in 2018, they released their second game, Electric Wilds. Electric Wilds is a unique take on the classic 3x3 slot, reminiscent of an old UK pub mechanic, complete with a nostalgic old school look. It will immediately surprise you with its unique 3D reels and in-game cameras! Electric Wilds also features an original repeater bonus that gives you the chance of repeating the base game win by up to 4x! This game’s design is full of surprises and not like anything you’ve seen before!

With 2 really original games, it’s probably safe to assume that even better games designed to the best of standards are in the pipeline. We can’t wait to see what this provider will come up with for players in the near future!
